The Australian government has announced more than $3 million funding so that 22 touring companies can tour their productions to venues in remote, regional and metropolitan Australia. Arts Minister Simon Crean said “While people in metropolitan centres can easily visit galleries, see live music and see international and local theatre performances, people in regional and remote areas don’t have the same opportunities to enjoy the arts”. Funding for these touring performing arts companies comes from the Australian Government’s Playing Australia program. It has funded performing arts tours since 1992 with a principal aim to support tours to regional and remote Australia.
