BRIDGE-BUILDING IN BRUSSELS…

The first EU-China High-Level Cultural Forum brought together renowned European and Chinese intellectuals and artists on 6-7 October in Brussels. The event was opened by the President of the European Commission, José Manuel Barroso, and the Prime Minister of the People's Republic of China, Wen Jiabao. The forum, organised jointly by the European Commission and the Ministry of Culture of the People's Republic of China as part of the 13th EU-China Summit, was chaired by Italian author Umberto Eco and Chinese researcher Qiu Xigui. The event's main objective was to strengthen people-to-people exchanges and to foster mutual understanding between the EU and China.
