DIVERSITY 1…

The European Commission organised a ministerial conference in Brussels on 8 December to celebrate the 5-year anniversary of the adoption of the UNESCO Convention on the protection and promotion of the diversity of cultural expressions. The aim was to mark the positive progress as regards the ratification of the Convention, but also emphasise its political relevance in the context of globalisation and reflect together on key issues for its implementation as a major instrument for cultural cooperation. The conference brought together the Director General of UNESCO, the European Commission, Ministers of European Union Member States and third country partners, high-level officials and representatives of civil society. The event concluded with a reception and a concert by the legendary Congolese guitarist Dizzy Mandjeku.
