MEANWHILE, UNESCO DEVELOPS ITS GOALS….

The launch of the Global Education Digest; round tables on education and the MDGs (22/09) and culture for development (21/09); and an exhibition on education were among UNESCO's activities at the High-level Meeting on the Millennium Development Goals (MDG Summit) at the United Nations (20-22 September). UNESCO has long advocated that sustainable development strategies sensitive to cultural assets are the key to addressing the interlinked economic, social and environmental problems confronting all societies today. Seizing the opportunity to revisit the international development paradigm, which does not yet explicitly recognize the role of culture in and for development, UNESCO spearheaded a high-level round table on Culture for Development during the UN Summit on the Millennium Development Goals.
